Belvidere man wins jury award in 2000 accident
A Winnebago County jury has awarded $232,369.50 to a 31-year-old Belvidere man for severe leg injuries he suffered from a Jan. 16, 2000, car accident in Rockford.
Jason Noe, a father of six, was struck by a van as he was walking along an unlighted portion of Montague Road in rural Winnebago County. Noe suffered compound fractures to his right leg and had little recollection of the accident, according to his attorney, Kim MacCloskey of MacCloskey Timmerwilke and Associates in Rockford.
The jury, which announced its decision June 14, also determined that Noe was 30 percent at fault by failing to get out of the way of the van being driven by Brady Adams of Byron. Noe's award therefore was decreased by 30 percent to $162,658.65.
It was a tough liability case because my client didn't remember the incident, MacCloskey said. The defendant's testimony went against what we were contending; which was that my client was not walking in the road.
We had to rely heavily on physical evidence from the scene and the accident reconstruction, which showed that the van was actually 3 feet off the road when it struck my client
MacCloskey said testimony from Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Moore, who analyzed tire marks at the scene, proved invaluable.

Township official wins $427K in accident suit
ROCKFORD — A Winnebago County jury awarded a Pecatonica man $427,332.10 [actual verdict was $472,332.10] Friday for injuries suffered when he was struck by a golf cart at the Winnebago County Fairgrounds.
Bruce T. Lizer was driving a motorcycle on a road on the fairground property April 27, 2001, when a Winnebago County Fair Association employee drove onto the road from a grassy area and struck the motorcycle, said Lizer's attorney, Kim MacCloskey.
The fair association and the employee, Margaret Myers, were sued for negligence.
The jury awarded to Lizer, the Pecatonica Township highway commissioner, $72,332.10 for medical bills, $250,000 for pain and suffering and $150,000 for loss of a normal life.
MacCloskey argued at trial that Lizer suffered a severe fracture of his left foot during the collision and the injury has left Lizer in constant pain and unable to engage in sporting activities.
